పొగతాగనివాడు దున్నపోతై పుట్టున్
కన్యాశుల్కం నాటకంలో నవ్వుల పంట పండించే పాత్ర గరీశానిది. ఇతర పాత్రల అమాయకత్వాన్ని ఆసరాగా తీసుకుని గిరీశం వదిలే ఢాంభికాలు మనల్ని మాత్రం కడుపుబ్బా నవ్విస్తాయి.
చుట్టపై గరీశం ఏమంటాడంటే,
“చుట్టకాల్చడం యొక్క మజా నీకింకా బోధపడకపోవడం చాలా ఆశ్చర్యంగా వుంది. చుట్ట కాల్చబట్టే కదా దొర్లంత గొప్పవాళ్ళయినారు. చుట్టకాల్చని ఇంగ్లీషువాణ్ణి చూశావూ? చుట్టపంపిణీ మీదనే స్టీముయంత్రం వగయిరా తెల్లవాడు కనిపెట్టాడు. లేకపోతే వాడికి పట్టుబణ్ణా? శస్త్రకారుడు యేవన్నాడో చప్పానే. సూత ఉవాచ-
ఖగపతి యమ్రుతము తేగా
భుగభుగమని పొంగి చుక్క భూమిని వ్రాలెన్
పొగచెట్టై జన్మించెను!
పొగతాగనివాడు దున్నపోతై పుట్టున్
(ఇంద్రుడు స్వర్గానికి అమృతం తీసుకొనివస్తుండగా పొగలు కక్కుతున్న అమృత కలశం నుండి ఒక చుక్క క్రింద పడింది. ఆ అమృతబిందువు నుండి పొగచెట్టు, అనగా పొగాకు పుట్టింది. అట్టి పొగ త్రాగని వారు మరుజన్మలో దున్నపోతై జన్మిస్తారని తమ శిష్యునతో సెలవిస్తున్నారు గరీశం గారు. )

I am trying out various ways to post in telugu while avoiding telugu fonts cause a lot of my frens may not have them. I am working on the format of the blog as of now. Thanks again for the suggestion.

its heartening to see telugu blogosphere growing..a small suggestion...i feel the appeal of the blog could be increased with transliterations and translations. May be something like this
It would help a large number of people like me who can speak telugu well, but cannot read, but are very interested in telugu.

This poem reminds me of two other things, BTW: While one of them NTR's impressive performance in 'kanyaaSulkam' movie, the other is SreeSree's chilipitanam in the padyam that refers to this poem in 'kanyaaSulkam':
